The first one I purchased was on my daughter-in law’s wish list for her birthday. She is a beautiful, young and phenomenal cook. Always believing that the cooking process is an ongoing learning and exploring procedure, I put a pot on my birthday list the following year. There are some things that just must be made in it…for instance…chili, meat or marinara sauce, pulled pork, soups. While the first purchase was the color Dune, mine was a beautiful red. I don’t even have any red in my kitchen but this pot called out for red for me. All the colors are lovely.

This is an awesome value for the price. Heats evenly and quickly, looks wonderful, cleans up easily, and all the other great things you’d expect from good quality clad cookware.

The only problems that I have with it are:

If you simmer something with the lid on, or boil something for a somewhat long time with the lid on, the handle on the lid will get really hot. If you simmer something for a long time the pan handles also have a chance of getting hot considering you’ve given the heat so much time to spread itself throughout all parts of the pan.

The handles are very comfortable… but very hard to keep from twisting in your hand if you’re tilting either pan to pour stuff. Because the handles are so smooth and roundish and the pans so heavy compared to el-cheapo pans, it’s very hard to keep the pans from twisting back to a level position when you tilt it for pouring, especially if your hands are a bit wet, although this is still very possible with dry hands, or even with a towel acting as a pot holder. This is more pronounced in the fry pan, but also happens in the saucepan. It is a pain to try and keep it tilted with one hand while you scrape food out with the other.

Other brands like Calphalon Tri-ply and All Clad have flat, thin, grooved handles. While these handles are not nearly as comfortable when the pan is flat, they provide the needed grip to keep the pan from twisting in the hand when tilted.

Clad inside and out in gleaming stainless steel, the two-quart covered saucepan and 10-inch covered frying pan in this starter set handsomely suffice to cook just about all the basics: soups, vegetables, fish, meats, eggs, you-name-it. The long handles, riveted for strength and curved for comfort and control, stay cool thanks to their hollow form and V-connection. The thing about this pad that I appreciate the most is it’s simple design. It is, in effect, a simple piece of aluminum bent into a cooler-pad shape, three fans bolted on, and a bunch of rubber grommets and pads to keep your computer and itself in place. The fans are standard 60mm size, nice and quiet, and when the day comes that one of them does start to fail, the wiring scheme is so simple that I’ll have a harder time scrounging the tools and parts to replace it than actually replacing the fan.

The only real problem I have is it’s size. I have a large laptop (17″ HP DV7) and it hangs a couple inches off either side and a little off the front, so it’s really designed for a machine smaller than the one I have. Despite this, it cools my machine exceptionally well and is stable enough that it has survived the “curious toddler what’s-this-daddy? test.”

Pros: All in all a well designed, sturdy, and efficient design. Fans easily serviceable/replaceable.

Cons: Completely open design on the sides and bottom. Little protection for underside wiring, not very portable. Overall size would work better for notebooks smaller than 17″.

This cooked wonderful on our electric range! I was so nervous about spending this much on a pan, but it is well worth it. The first one we got went back as the “cookbook” is missing (the second one does not have one either!! So I’d not expect one!), the bottom had a ring of missing coating, and the inside was scratched. It was like it was used and sent back and repackaged to go back out. The new one looks fine (except not any little booklet like promised on the package). It does state to “season” it before use. I noticed people complaining of the coating coming off, we’ve not had that happen yet. Use warm, soapy water to wash, with a cloth or sponge, dry immediately and I think you should be good to go. As stated, it cooks wonderfully on the electric stove… Very happy with the results of my first meal (chicken Lo Mein) Homemade of course!

I can see the improvements over the power capacity. The only thing that is missing is the led indicator when you charge the battery.
